Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoka, Romania, is a state university which is well-known in Romania and in Europe for high-quality teaching. It now trains more than 6,000 Romanian and international students and employs more than 1,100 faculty members and researchers.
The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in Cluj-Napoka in 1872 by Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria and was solemnly inaugurated in 1919. As a result of significant political, economic, and social changes which took place in Romania in 1989, the University underwent profound changes.
In 1990, the institution turns into the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy acquiring administrative and didactic autonomy and being named after Iuliu Hatieganu.

FACOLTA’ DI MEDICINA
The Faculty of Medicine offers higher medical education, Master’s programs, post-graduate courses, and continuous medical training.
There are 4 study programs to choose from:
- Medicine: 6-year program, 360 credits; languages of instruction: English, French, Romanian;
- Medical Care: 4-year program, 240 university credits.
- Radiology: 3-year program, 180 credits.
- Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Medicine: 3-year program, 180 credits.

Faculty of Dentistry
The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoka has one of the most modern structures in the country.
The training lasts for 6 years in the following 3 languages of instruction: Romanian, English, and French. 360 university credits are to be obtained.
The students learn to carry out activities with respect to the diagnostics and treatment of diseases, inborn and acquired anomalies of teeth, mouth, jaws, temporomandibular joints and related tissues, as well as dental prophylaxis and rehabilitation, and prescription of all medicines required in the profession.
Some of the most well-known department at the Faculty of Dentistry: Cervicofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Children’s Dental Medicine.
There are job offers both from private clinics, and from specialized clinical and public medical institutions.
Faulty of Pharmacy
The tuition at the Faculty of Pharmacy lasts for 5 years with its key objective being to give theoretical and practical knowledge in order to provide graduates with solid scientific foundation required for the practical work as a pharmacist.
The program envisages 300 credits, and the instruction languages are English, French, and Romanian.
The graduates have broad job opportunities, such as hospital pharmacist, public pharmacist (employed in local public pharmacies), pharmacist in pharmaceutical industry, etc.
The obstetrics program lasts for 4 years and envisages 240 university credits.
Within the program, students shall acquire fundamental knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and pathology; they must be able to carry out all obstetrician’s functions according to the standards of the European Union, to work with specialists in emergencies, to independently assess pathological situations both during pregnancy and during the delivery, and to deliver a baby.
Job prospects include the employment in public or private hospitals as full-time or freelance employees.
The assistant doctor’s training lasts for 3 years and envisages 180 university credits.
