Umea University (Swedish Umeå Universitet) is a university in Umea, Sweden. The university was founded in 1965 and is the fifth oldest university in modern Sweden. In 2012, the university ranked 23rd among the top educational institutions in the world under 50 years old, according to the British Times Higher Education (THE)  magazine. In 2013, the university was found the best in Sweden according to International Student Barometer from International Graduate Insight Group in terms of the satisfaction of international students.

The Umea University Library was created during the foundation of the University in 1965, although it takes it origins from the Scientific Library in Umea established in 1950 at Umea City Library . Its main building dates from 1968, but has since been extended and rebuilt more than once, most recently in 2006. There are several branches at the University Hospital in Umea, at the Umea Arts Campus and in Ornskoldsvik.
